The first ski resort in the area opened on the Aspen Mountain in the mid 20th century and although there are three more ski areas nearby (Buttermilk, Highlands and Snowmass), the 'Ajax' seems to be the one skiers are most fond of. It offers nearly 64 miles of intermediate and advanced runs and is thus considered somewhat inappropriate for beginners. Out of the ski season, the mountain is a favorite hiking spot. No matter the season, the view from the summit of the Aspen Mountain is always profoundly beautiful. After an action-packed day grab a hot beverage and a meal in one of the restaurants and bars. Maroon Bells Two bell-shaped peaks rising above the Maroon Lake at elevation of 14,000 feet are a sight to see. An almost surreal visage of nature is bound to take your breath away. You can wander around the lake or take a bit more challenging hike to the peaks. Glenwood springs The Roaring Fork River offers plenty activities such as hiking, fishing and whitewater rafting, but what we would recommend you to do after a long day skiing/hiking is taking a long dip in the Hot Springs Pool. Used for centuries by Native American tribes and notables such as Theodore Roosevelt and Al Capone, the springs will provide relaxation for your body and mind. Independence Pass Take a drive through the tight turns and forests on the edge of steep ridges and rest on the viewpoint platform looking at the panorama of the Continental Divide. Wheeler Opera House Check the program of the Wheeler Opera House before arriving to Aspen and make sure to buy a ticket for one of their spectacular performances or concerts. Make a voyage to another place and time in this Victorian architectural pearl. Aspen Center for Environmental Studies The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies serves both as a sanctuary for the area's wildlife as well as an educational program for visitors. Here you can encounter the indigenous flora and fauna and get acquainted with the preservation efforts of the local community. In addition to all enlisted above, Aspen provides a multitude of culinary, entertainment, shopping and leisure treats. Aspen is the elite vacation experience, which, contrary to the popular belief, can actually fit into a wide range of budgets.
